Love: 16 Weeks

How far along? 15 to 16 weeks

Weight Gain: 1 pound (officially from the doctor)

Morning Sickness: None.

Maternity Clothes: Not wearing maternity clothes, but still using a Belly Band for dress capris, it works really well and I would tell anyone to get one.

Stretch Marks: None.

Sleep: I am sleeping very good at night, possibly because teaching is wearing me out.

Baby Movement: None.

Food Cravings: I have been eating a lot of pizza and Italian, but that could also be because I love them and they are easy to cook for one. I honestly don’t really feel like I HAVE to have anything.

Belly Button In or Out? In

Wedding Rings On or Off? On

Thoughts and Feelings: I started school the last week of my first trimester. Everyone keeps saying that the second trimester is so much better, and you get your energy back. Well I would hate to see what I would be like without energy because the school day is exhausting all in itself. I had a doctor’s appointment and got to hear the heartbeat. That was very exciting! I also made my next two appointments, one of which is the ultrasound at 20 weeks 6 days to hopefully find out what we are having. I am excited about a baby boy or a baby girl, just praying for a healthy, happy baby. We shopped for a crib and picked one out, and picked out bedding for a baby boy- definitely sports themed.

Live: Laundry Room Quick Fix

Laundry Room Before:
The shelves above the washer and dryer provide great storage for cleaning supplies, kitchen overflow, and things that are not used often. However, the chaos drove me crazy. I constantly leave the door open, so you can see into the laundry room from the kitchen. The worst part was the clutter, I am ok with people seeing the washer and dryer.

I am a huge collector of Fiesta dishes, I have dishes displayed in my china cabinet, and the tablecloth on my kitchen table. Eventually I want to make valances out of the tablecloth too. I knew I wanted my laundry room to flow with my kitchen so I ordered another tablecloth to make a curtain to cover the shelves.

The stripes on the tablecloth went the perfect direction, I was able to fold it at one of the stripes, iron for a crisp line, and sew one quick line. I used a tension rod and drapery rings to hang the curtain.

The Finished Product

There was also enough space between the washer and dryer for a ClosetMaid 3 shelf organizer. It's a great place to keep laundry supplies, and my broom and Swiffer stand up behind it.

Teach: A New Classroom

When I was hired last year 7 days before school started I was in a bit of a bind on looking for a classroom theme. I was told the whole team had an animal theme, and each class was named after the animal. I had one store to shop at, Office Depot, and 2 choices The Very Hungry Caterpillar or frongs. I went with The Very Hungry Caterpillar bacause I like Eric Carle. Seriously though in 5th grade?! This year I needed something new and fun. I decided to forget the animals and go with the new Dots on Turquoise. I already had a lot of bright colored stuff, baskets, pillows, a couch, etc.

My classroom Reading Corner. I really wanted to create an environment the kids were excited to use. They are very excited about it, I'm just not sure when they are going to have time to use it. I had the couch from my bedroom in highschool, and the butterfly from my room in middle school. My kids do have to check books out from my personal library. Each book has a card and when they check the book out the card goes in their pocket. The books are not aloud to go home also just to help with kids lossing the books.

Monday Folders, Friday Folders, all the same. Something else to keep track of. Last year I always had a hard time checking to make sure all the folders were in on Wednesday, so I decided to solve that proble, this year. On Monday when I hand out the folders the students will move their dot to "Out". The when I check their folder Tuesday morning they will move it to "In". This way on Wednesday I can easily see whose folder is still out. I cut out the letters on my Cricut in black vinyl.

I also got rid of the mailboxes I used last year to sort work. More for space saving reasons. Instead I use a Locker Tote that doubles as a file folder box. Each student has a file folder with their name on it and it can easily be filed. I still have a drawer in my drawer cart that their graded work goes into until it can make it into the folder. Then on Monday morning I can have a parent volunteer "stuff" their folders, and it only has to happen once.

Student Wall
Birthdays: I have every intention of really making a big deal of the students birthdays this year, however it has not started off so good.
Calendar: Last year I did one of the calendars with the pictures, and velcro on the back. Too elementary for 4th and 5th grade. So I got a new calendar and plan on writing important upcoming events. Spirit week, picture day, walk to school day, high attendance day, etc.
Library Chart: I know you can't really tell yet, but it's the blue chart. Each student has a pocket, and their book card goes there so I can tell what book they have out.
Classroom Jobs: I currently have a Librarian, Computer Tech, Paper Passer, Pencil Sharpener, Planner Personnel, and Playground Materials. However, with the schedule this year I don't even think we will have the time for my kids to even do them. Intentions:
Librarian: used a a reward to sit in the Reading Corner for the week
Computer Tech: in charge of turning on and off the computer, and helping me with the SmartBoard
Paper Passer: filing papers in the Monday Folder box
Pencil Sharpener: I have a sharp and unsharp pencil bucket, and just making sure that there are sharpened pencils
Planner Personnel: Last year I had 2 people who checked to see that planners were signed everyday. However after some discussion with several other teachers, we decided that if the students planner wasn't signed and we were moving their PAW was it really a punishment for the kids, or a punishment because of their parent. We are now doing positive rewards. So on Friday I check to see that their planner was filled out all week and give them a Tiger Card.
Playground Materials: simple, just in charge of bringing the playground bucket to and from recess, however, I don't have my homeroom kids before lunch, so this is out.

The whiteboard of many purposes, Monday Folder dot spot, agenda page, learning target, and I am just waiting for  them to tell me I have to do Lunch Count in the classroom. I already have plans for that too, below the agenda page, a magnet for each student, and spot for Option 1, Option 2, Packed Lunch, and Need to Vote. Again  I will cut this out in vinyl.

Smart Board with a carpet for me to stand on, especially nice with my feet hurt, or even as some added cushion from standing at the board. We have awesome double sided book cases, but its very hard to have a place in the classroom for it to use both sides. I finally decided on keeping the book shelf about 2 feet away from the wall, and I put a "Teachers Only" sign so that I can have some extra storage. I collected the students markers, glue, scissors, etc. into individual bags, and put them in a bucket so when they need them in another class its grab and go.

Love: Pregnancy Weeks 7 to 14

I am convinced that in this picture you can see the pooch that I have always had.

How far along? 7-14 weeks

Due Date: February 8th, 2013

Weight Gain: None so far.

Morning Sickness: I never actually got sick. If I didn’t eat about every 3 hours I would start to feel a little sunny, but that went away about week 12.

Maternity Clothes:  Nope. However my dress capris will not button on top, so I have been wearing a Belly Band with them. Jean shorts still fit great!

Stretch Marks: Nope.

Sleep:  Lots of it! As JD says I am just not the same, it seems like I get worn out so much easier, definitely hoping the 2nd trimester gets a little better.

Baby Movement: None.

Food Cravings: No cravings, but definitely had problems with not wanting something. If it doesn’t sound good, it’s not going to taste good, and I’m not going to eat it.

Belly Button In or Out? In.

Wedding Rings On or Off? On.
Thoughts and Feelings: I was very nervous in the beginning, not to mention a little shocked (it just happened a lot faster than I was expecting). After the first ultrasound at week 10, I am feeling a lot better, definitely excited now. I am noticing some changes in my body, but nothing really noticeable to anyone else.

Sorry for the poor picture quality, I have got to figure out something different in the future.

Live: Bathroom Sneak Peak

From day one we knew the full bathroom was something we wanted to gut. I'm talking new bathtub and everything, not just a fresh coat of paint.

When we moved in the shower had doors on it which we immediately removed. It was just a few screws and some silicone. So we filled the holes and moved one.

We did update the shower curtain rod to a crescent rod which gave a little more room in the shower. We replaced the toilet, after the original started running all the time. But that was it, I never even painted.

I knew that with this bathroom being our only one with a shower/bathtub the remodel had to wait until summer when I was out of school. Even at that it has still been a big task.

So the old beige shower and walls left. Amazingly I found a new bathtub that fits in a standard 5 foot alcove that is about 3 inches wider, and 3 inches taller. It is much more like a soaker tub than any other tub I have ever seen in this space. It is even comforable for my 6 foot 2 inch husband. So the new bathtub went in, concrete board went up, and we were ready for tile.
This is just a sneak peak of the tile. We went with a 12x12 inch tile for the bulk of the shower, and I bought a 1x1 inch accent tile to use in a 6 inch stripe around the shower. (Wait until you get to see a close up of the accent tile, it is BEAUTIFUL!!!)

Our experiences with tiling:
Some how my husband managed to use nearly 4 gallons of thinset to put the tile up. Don't ask me I have no idea how. I can only suggest to buy more than the tub tells you, you will need.
It took him 2 days to tile the shower area...
Grout went fairly smoothly, thanks to one tool in particular, it costs about $5:
A grout bag. You simply fill the bag with grout, and pipe the grout into the opening as if you were  piping icing onto a cake. For me this was a much cleaner way to grout. I wasn't droping grout off the grout float. After I piped the grout into the groves, JD came back through with the grout float to really fill the space. We were able to work on opposite sides, and just switch places.

Well the tiling is done, and the grouting is done, but I'm not going to show that until the rest of the bathroom is done.

Still to come, a new coat of paint, a new vanity, a new light fixture, and mirror.
